Flooring

Another way for home sellers to make a statement is with flooring.  Geometric tiles in bold colors are very popular with designers. Small spaces like laundry rooms and bathrooms can have a fun pop without adding pieces that will take up valuable space.

Light Wood

Light wood cabinets are popping up everywhere.  The trend had been either dark cabinets or mostly white but now warm, textured and natural wood cabinets are coming to make spaces more welcoming.

As color palettes are moving toward warm neutrals, home sellers will want to take note.  Soft beiges, deep reds and browns are going to be everywhere in homes – from artwork to the walls.

Hardware

Hardware can really change up a space.  Shiny metal had been in but the market is seeing homeowners move more towards matte metals.  While shiny can make a space feel too cold, matte metals are all about warming up a home and making it feel very livable.

Trends to Wave Goodbye

All-white kitchens are on their way out.  Home sellers may have put in those bright white cabinets thinking you were make a timeless choice but the market has made a pivot.

More color is going to be popping into kitchens.  Research is showing kitchens with blue are selling for more than kitchens with white.  Layering colors and textures in kitchens make them feel more inviting.

Plus, all white kitchens aren’t really that practical.  Cleaning them is tricky even though they photograph beautifully.

Look for more and more bloggers and home design sites to be painting kitchen islands bold colors and using a light contrasting countertop with light wood cabinets.

Bar Carts

Bar carts can look gorgeous when they are perfectly staged but the majority of homeowners are not using theirs everyday.  So when not in use, the carts are in the way and getting dusty.

However, home sellers can repurpose your bar cart into a coffee cart!  It’s trendy but a lot more practical for everyday life.

Greens

Succulents are also on their way out.  While still easy to care for and super affordable, there are such a wide range of indoor plant options you shouldn’t limit yourself.  For example, a palm or fig tree could be just what your space needs to brighten it up and bring some green in the house.

If you are planning on selling your home this year, it’s important to stay up to date with trends. However, home sellers will want to be careful when implementing, as trends can change. If you go over the top with being “trendy” and do not sell, you could have to start from scratch next year.
